At Adez Adventure, your safety and well-being are our highest priorities. Trekking Mount Rinjani to an altitude of 3,726 meters (12,224 feet) is a rewarding but demanding adventure.
As of the 2026 trekking season, the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority (TNGR) has introduced updated, mandatory insurance regulations to ensure world-class safety standards for all climbers. All trekkers must have valid coverage while inside the park.
To help you prepare, here is a detailed breakdown of the two official insurance tiers required by TNGR: Basic/Regular Insurance and Premium Insurance.
1. TNGR Basic (Regular) Insurance
This tier is automatically included in your national park entrance ticket when you book a trekking package with Adez Adventure via the e-Rinjani system.
The Cost: Included in your package price (valued at approximately IDR 10,000 / ~$0.60 USD). Status: Mandatory minimum requirement.
What the Basic Tier Covers: This policy provides minimal, local-level coverage for minor incidents, including:
-
Standard medical expenses at local clinics up to IDR 4,000,000.
-
Ground-based emergency evacuation support (stretcher team) up to IDR 10,000,000.
-
Fixed financial compensation in the event of permanent disability (up to IDR 30,000,000) or death (IDR 15,000,000 – IDR 30,000,000).
The Limitations: This basic local insurance does not include helicopter evacuation. Because emergency helicopter rescues are incredibly expensive and can mean the difference between a survivable and fatal outcome in high-altitude emergencies, TNGR requires trekkers to either hold personal travel insurance covering helicopter rescue or purchase the TNGR Premium tier.
2. TNGR Premium Insurance (Mandatory if uninsured)
To minimize risk on the mountain, TNGR now strictly enforces a rule requiring all trekkers to have coverage for helicopter evacuation. If your personal travel insurance does not explicitly cover this, you are required by TNGR to purchase the Premium Insurance tier.
The Cost: IDR 290,000 per person (approx. $17 – $19 USD). Validity: Valid for up to 4 days (4 x 24 hours) from the moment you enter the trekking gate.
What the Premium Tier Covers:
-
All basic medical treatments.
-
Emergency helicopter evacuation directly from the mountain.
-
Comprehensive emergency response coordination.
How to Waive the Premium Fee: You can skip purchasing the TNGR Premium Insurance only if you provide proof of a personal travel or health insurance policy that explicitly covers:
-
High-altitude trekking (up to at least 3,726m / 4,000m).
-
Emergency medical evacuation, specifically including helicopter/air rescue.
(Popular providers that often offer these add-ons include World Nomads, Global Rescue, and Cover-More.)
What You Need to Do Before Arriving
To ensure a smooth registration process at the e-Rinjani gate, please take the following steps before your trip:
-
Check Your Personal Policy: Review your personal travel insurance carefully. Ensure it explicitly states coverage for high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation. (Do not assume standard credit card insurance covers this).
-
Provide Documentation: Send our team a copy of your insurance certificate showing your name, policy number, coverage period, and proof of evacuation coverage.
-
Budget for Premium (If Needed): If your personal policy does not cover helicopter evacuation, please budget an extra IDR 290,000 to purchase the TNGR Premium Insurance during registration.
